I wanted to compose a hommage, but I thought that easy-listening music was not the right thing to do. I desided to compose a new piece of music entirely based on Mozart, but not as a kind of «look alike-Mozart-music.» I wanted it to be my kind of music, were you often find more than one going on at the same time.

The piece is based on themes by Mozart, often two, sometimes three themes put upon each other. I started to do two instrumentations, Mozart´s first piece (K.1), a Minuet and Trio Mozart composed when he was six. The second piece I instrumentated was his Divertimento No.7 (K. 205), but only the Finale movement (Presto) is presented in full version.
I have also composed new music based on Mozart´s date of birth and is initials (W.A. Mozart). This material has become fanfare-like music, with rhythms that I have got from the Overture to The Magic Flute (K. 620). I also use the chords from the Adagio that opens the overture.

These fragments are presented by three different ensembles:
The first ensemble is an octet (Soprano Cornet, Repiano Cornet, Flugelhorn, two Trombones, Baritone, Euphonium and Bb bass), that plays quotations from the Divertimento.  
The second ensemble (Xylophone, Marimba and Tubular Bells) plays the Minuet and Trio.
The third ensemble (rest of the band) presents elements from The Magic Flute and my own music.

In the last part of the piece you will hear the Presto from K. 205 in a complete version played by the octet. However, I have composed music to go with it: Mozart´s music accompanied by some kind of fireworks.

Jeg ville skrive en hyllest, men noe lett musikk eller «mozart-look-alike-musikk» følte jeg ble feil å gjøre. Jeg bestemte meg for å skrive et nytt stykke, min egen musikk der musikken ofte ligger i flere lag, som helt og holdent baserte seg på Mozart.

Stykket baserer seg på Mozart-tema, med to og tre tema spilt samtidig. Jeg begynte arbeidet meg å instrumentere noe av Mozart´s musikk, Mozarts´s første registrerte stykke Minuett og Trio (K. 1) som han komponerte når han var seks år, og hans Divertimento nr. 7 (K. 205), men bare Finalen (Presto) ble gjort i komplett utgave. De andre satsene plukket jeg deler fra.

Jeg komponerte også musikk som fant tonene i Mozart´s initialer (W.A. Mozart) og fødselsdato. Dette ble til en fanfarelignende musikk med rytmer hentet fra overtyren til Tryllefløyten (K. 620). I «stjal» også akkordene fra overtyrens innledning.

For å presentere du ulike lagene av musikk, grupperte jeg korpset. En oktett (Eb kornett, Bb kornett, flygelhorn, to tromboner, baritone, euphonium og Bb bass) spiller utdrag fra Divertimento no. 7.
En trio (xylofon, marimba og rørklokker) spiller Minuett og Trio.
Resten av korpset spiller elementer fra Tryllefløyten samt min egen musikk.

I siste del av stykket blir presto-satsen fra Divertimento presentert i sin helhelt av oktetten. Men for å gi bursdagsfeiringen det rettet «sus», skrev jeg en slags fyrverkerimusikk oppå dette.
